I love to hear about upcoming events.  If you know of something, let me know, and I’ll post it here!  even if I can’t attend, I’d like to know about it.

  • March 26-27, 2010 – Mormon Issues Symposium – Claremont, CA.

On Friday and Saturday, March 26-27, Sunstone and the Claremont School of Religion will co-host a symposium on current Mormon issues. The leafy Claremont campus, with its beautiful Spanish revival architecture, is located thirty miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Several participants will be discussing polygamy: Newell Bringhurst, Don Bradley, Carrie Miles, and Signature author Todd Compton. Another Signature author, D. Michael Quinn, will speak on religious tribalism and early Mormonism. Claudia Bushman and others will speak on Mormon feminism.

One of the highlights of the symposium will be Robert Rees’s analysis of Mormon radio host Glenn Beck as “Latter-day Saint or Latter-day Jo McCarthy.” There will also be a panel discussion on recent Mormon movies, and Richard Bushman and Armand Mauss will update attendees about the progress of the Mormon Studies program at Claremont.

The opening plenary session will be Friday at 8:00 p.m. The symposium will then resume the next morning at 8:00 a.m. Signature Books will display of recent titles, which will be available for sale. For more information, please consult the preliminary program.

Events will be held at Stauffer Hall and the Albrecht Auditorium. 925 Dartmouth Ave, Claremont CA.

  • Friday, April 8-9, 2010 Restoration Studies Symposium, Independence, Missouri

The third annual Restoration Studies / Sunstone Midwest Symposium will take place on Thursday and Friday, April 8-9, immediately prior to the World Conference of the Community of Christ.

All events will take place at the Graceland University / Independence Campus, 1401 West Truman Rd., in Independence, Missouri. Registration will take place beginning 5:00 pm Thursday and 8:00 am Friday.

The theme of this year’s symposium is “Identities & Relationships: Mormonism, Christianity, and the Community of Christ.”

  • May 27-30, 2010, in Kansas City, Missouri. Mormon History Association – The 2010 theme “The Home and the Homeland: Families in Diverse Mormon Traditions.MHA invites and actively seeks proposals for complete sessions, panels, and other presentations. While we encourage presentations related to the theme and also complete sessions, we also welcome all other proposals. Please send an abstract of the paper (no more than 300 words) that outlines your argument and the sources that will be used plus a short CV (no longer than two pages) for each speaker. Previously published papers will not be considered.The deadline for proposals is October 1, 2009. Proposals should be sent by email to mhameeting2010@gmail.com. Notification for acceptance or rejection will be made by January 1, 2010.
