Chicken, I’m not sure if your question is tongue in cheek or not, but I have had people ask me seriously what a “Ute” is. Utah is named after the Ute Indian tribe, so it is an Indian tribe, much like the Seminoles, the Navajo, or the Illini. Unlike Florida State, we don’t have someone dress up as an Indian for our mascot. Instead, we have a hawk, named Swoop. The Ute tribe supports the use of the name and logo, so it appears we won’t have to change it like some other schools have had to (like St John’s Redmen is now the Red Wave.)
